Wal-Mart: Corporate Evil
CNN

Reading about Wal-Mart has always led me to say "I'm going to Target." This claim was reenforced today when I read an article about a Wal-Mart employee under Wal-Mart's "Health Plan" being sued for the money they gave her for her care after she lost her son and most of her short term memory. She had been hit by a tractor trailer and suffered severe brain damage. Her husband sued the truck company and gained $417,000 after legal fees. Wal-Mart turned around and sued him for $470,000 to recover the cost it paid for her. It was part of their policy but completely wrong. They only stopped the lawsuit when the public got involved. This article was very effective in that it makes me want to boycott Wal-Mart and Sam's Club. I rather support a company like Target that gives back to the community rather than taking back from them. Although my decision is made to not shop there now, I see myself needing something random at 1:30 in the morning and buying it at my local Wal-Mart.

wow....what a sad story. I'd think that more papers would grab onto a story like this. I can't belive that a corporation like Wal-Mart would do something like that. Shame on them!

I'd like to hear more information about this. I'm taking a business law class and often cases like this can be very misconstrued by the media. For instance, a few years ago I remembered hearing about a case where a lady spilled coffee on herself and sued McDonalds and won 2 million dollars. We had to read the actual case; it turns out that this lady had 3rd degree burns (which is burned down to the bone) and the actual awardings were substantially lower. I would definitely like to hear all of the information of this before making a decision!

It's horrible that you can sue for so many things now. People are just so driven to get money they will sue for anything, and the laywers will take any case they think they can win. It's just becoming pathetic.
