Change Smoke Alarm Batteries
Advocate pg. 6B, March 13, 2008
This article passes along good advice from the Louisiana Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Baton Rouge Fire Department; change your smoke alarm batteries when you change your clocks during daylight-saving time. This was a very informative article. The advice was from a credible source, the Red Cross and a fire department, so more people will listen. It also informed readers how to test their smoke alarms monthly. The only opinion I saw in this article was the statement, "...it could be the best investment of time you'll ever make." So, i do not think this actually qualifies as a editorial, but it did a good job reminding me that I should change the batteries in my smoke alarm. However, I did not change nor check my smoke alarm. The author could improve this article by including a story to get people to react more, and actually change the batteries.

I definitely think a story would have helped this article out. People like emotion and may get bored reading about such a dull subject. There are probably many good stories he could have used. This article presents a good point; however, I still think it needs something interesting to get the audience's attention.
I think if the author seems to have had trouble connecting with the reader. A story about how someone's house burt down and their smoke alamrs didnt work so someone died would have gotten the readers attention.
I think they should make that into a commercial for every time daylight savings comes around. I think the problem of people not changing is that they just don't think about it. If there would be a reminder on television, i think people would remember
This is a really good idea. You definitley want to have good batteries in your smoke alarm for abvious reasons, but it can be a very easy thing to forget to do. This seems like a very informative article something that many people need to read.
