Manifest Mining
A recent editorial from the New York Times shed light on an out of date law from the trailblazing days. The General Mining Law of 1872 sets the the standards for mining on public lands and has yet to be amended for today's national park and environmental considerations. This law bounced back into the spotlight when the Federal Forest Service awarded a British company the right to search for uranium just outside Grand Canyon National Park with little public notice and no formal environmental review. I thought the article was crisp and to the point. The author clearly defined the forthcomings of the law while managing to stay neutral on the issue. I also applaud his effort to goad congress into action by pointing out their responsibility to amend the law.

It seems like this article was written very clear. It's a law I would not typically think about and it is good the author is bringing it up.
