The Food and Drug Administration does not having enough money or trained scientists to properly run their company. Last week, they had to tell a Congressional panel that they were “barely hanging on by their fingertips”. Technology in today’s world is growing at a rapid pace. With all these changes, the scientists aren’t staying current with product safety methods, and this could be dangerous to us as consumers. They are also lacking enough inspection workers and up-to-date computer systems to inspect foreign plants that are importing food, drugs, and other products. Congress has tried to increase their workload and add employees, but they have failed to give them the money or resources needed to do the job right. Mr. Hutt, the agency’s former chief counsel, wants to see the agency’s money double and have 50 percent more staff within the next two years.
I thought this article was well written and did a good job of bringing an issue to the table. I never even knew this was going on. Whenever I heard “F.D.A. Approved”, I thought it meant that product was ok for me to buy. I liked how the article was informative and well-researched. The columnist wasn’t really trying to persuade the audience, just inform them about an issue he feels strongly about.

I really like articles like this one. The articles are more interesting when the writer gives information about something worthwile and actually explains it rather than just stating his opinion at the beginning.
This article points out a very disturbing issue. "FDA Approved" is one of the ways we determine what to buy, what is credible. It helps the consumer distinguish between "safe" products. I think the way the author presented the information in a nonbiased way helped his argument by not choosing sides.
The information provided in this article is great. The author points out a lot of good facts and uses great information to support the things he is presenting. This is a very well written article.
