The Advocate

Randolph M. Howes, M.D., Ph.D.
The author talks about how drug companies, while they are there to make your life better, their main goal is to run a business and make money. He uses the Lipitor heart medication as an example. They used the inventor of the artifical heart Robert Jarvik to hype up and sell the product. What they didn't do however was tell about the negative side effects. The author is a doctor, so he is a reliable source. He states, "Sadly, today’s doctors are so busy that many do not have an in-depth knowledge of the very drugs which they prescribe, and full disclosure of harmful side effects has not been provided to them." The author also went on to give his thoughts on what you should do when considering medications. I think it was a very well written article and written by a very reliable source. It was very informative and makes me more cautious when taking medications.

Some of the best articles are written by people who know the most on the subject; this is a very good example. Obviously this doctor must know about medications and how they are prescribed and how much information the doctor prescribing them is actually given. Hopefully doctors will find a little more time to research into the products they provide.
I agree, doctors should know exactly how the drugs they are perscribing work. It is very dangerous to mix some medicines, so how will they know what medicines can be put with eachother. This is very scary to a person who takes multiple perscriptions. I know doctors are very intelligent, but they should probably get an annual perscription drug information class to let them know about the benefits and risks of drugs for that year.
Sadly this is a case of the conspiracy coming true. People have been speaking out against the unethical and immoral actions of the major drug companies for years and its refreshing to see this issue get the mainstream media it deserves. The federal government should mandate all documents regarding research and cost should be released to the public.
It sounds like this was a really affective article. It is scary to think that your doctors cold be promoting things to you that may nto be in your best intrest. I think it is sad that the world has come ot a point today that you can not even trust your own doctor.
