Sacking O'Keefe hurts LSU's image

Sacking O'Keefe hurts LSU's image
The Advocate, Jan. 22, 6B
Michael Higginbotham

In this article, the author presents a very bias, one-sided opinion of the forced resignation of Chancellor Sean O'Keefe. The author starts his argument by talking about a constant politically changing state where its flagship university is at a stand still. He goes on saying that the resignation was unjust and embarassing. He talks of how this embarassing, unfair action could permenately damage the Image of LSU. The author closes by stating that he had no relation to the chancellor what so ever. His argument was not about the chancellor, but instead it was about the perception of our flagship university. I feel that this is a very uneffective article, because no real facts are given. Although the article is well written and easy to read, it lacks credibility and factual information. It in no way explains the reasoning for this sudden forced resignation and provides no quotes giving insight to the story.

As stated in a previous comment of mine; I don't think it's ever good to have a one tracked mind when writing an opinion article. Especially, if you don't even have your facts straight. The really biased articles, to me, are annoying to read.

Personally, I was very upset at the events leading up to the Chancellor's resignation, because I am very passionate about how well of a job Sean O'Keefe had been doing as the leader of the University, and it was a shame he was forced out. But it makes me even angrier when I read/hear of articles whose main points I agree with (i.e. O'Keefe's resignation was unjustified and forced) yet the writers present their arguments in a bias way with absolutely no factual evidence. It just projects to the public that those who think O'Keefe was great have no reason or factual evidence to believe this, and therefore the articles are unconvincing. I wish someone would write a decent editorial on this issue, backed up with the facts and convincing evidence to show the real reasons O'Keefe made LSU great.

While I know that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, it tends to make me angry when I read something so biased that the author does not even present the other side of things. I usually disregard their work and look to facts. It appears that he was just angry and wanted to let "some steam off."
