Limits on the Death Penlty

This article argues that the death penalty should only apply to a homicide crime. The Supreme Court want to extend the death penalty to include other crimes, but this is what the author is arguing against. One case of this was a man raped his 8 year old stepdaughter and got the death penalty. It is questionable whether or not this man deserved to die because of this, because every crime is a different situation and needs to be handled as such. Some state laws, such as Louisiana’s, are being made to where rape of a child 12 or younger is punishable by death. If they choose to go that route, then where do they draw the line with major crimes and the death penalty?
This was a very interesting article to read. The author was very well-spoken and had a lot to say about the topic. There weren’t really too many facts or statistics which could have made it more credible, but I think the information was the important thing.

I think there should have been more credible facts, but even without it sounds like the author did a very good job expaining the topic. The summary you wrote was very informative, so it shows that the author put forth the information very clearly.

I heard some things on the death penatly recently. For some criminals it almost seems like less of a penalty then a life sentence. They go through hell in prison, especially the rapist and pedophiles, the other convicts beat them and rape them. I think they should just completely do away with the thing and punish the criminals with life sentences, but then jails would be crowded as well.

Raping an 8 year old is an extreme crime. At that age they have no knowledge of those types of acts. I don't know what I would do to punish him, but I can see why people want the death penalty.

It appears that this topic is all over the news these days. This article seemed to be very well written and informative. It looks like the purpose was to inform, and not to sway someone's opinion. Even though I did not read the article, I would say that the author put forth the information in such a way that everyone reading would understand, and that is very important in reaching a varied audience.

This seems like a very intresting aritcle. I think that the death penalty should only be given to those who commited murder. If they took somones life then theirs should be taken. If other crimes begin to receive the death penatly it will be hard to draw a line on what crimes should and should not receive that punishment.
