How Immigrants saved Social Security

The New York Times
April 2, 2008

This article is about the benefits that social security is receiving from illegal immigrants. The “other than legal” category is helping to strengthen social security. The article says that having the money from the illegal immigrants is like if payroll tax was raised .3 percent. People are quick to say that the immigrants need to get out of America but few people know that if that were to happen they would have to pay more taxes. I thought the author did an excellent job of explaining this issue. He made a lot of good points in showing that illegal immigration is beneficial for our social security.

  1. A lot of people do not know the benefit illegal immigrants provide. Although there are many issues with illegal immigration I do not agree with, this article provides a very good point that illegal immigration can be good in some aspects. The author seems to have done a very good job presenting a view not often thought of.

  2. It doesn't matter if they do help a little bit. They barely have any money anyway to boost the economy. They still use our goverment services and our roads that we pay for. They are still ILLEGAL. They may help a little, but they can still hurt us.

  3. I really like this article because it presents a different side to a major problem in America. While the majority of America rants and hollars about immigrants, they forget to actually pay attention to the good that can come from them. I think that this is a really heated topic and everyone will have their opinions, but it is good to hear from both sides.

  4. This is a very interesting issue. I always thought that everything about having illegal immigrants here was bad, but that's just what I was told. It seems that there's good that can come out of a seemingly bad situation. I would like to read more on this topic and the article.
